Junsun Dash Cam Full HD 1080P With Rear View Camera

High quality recording with plenty of options and added extras, the dash cam arrived in a nice custom made black box with a Junsun sleeve, the main camera at the top of the box protected by a foam cut out and all the listed contents under this including the 16gig micro SD memory card which is something most cameras don’t come with.

After I had opened it all up I had a good read through the manual, I found the manual to be very clear text and had supporting images with labels to identify all the buttons and functions on the camera, after setting it up indoors and going through the menu getting familiar with the settings and features I fitted it into the car, it comes with a suction fitting for the window that screws into the top of the camera with a locking system that is a very secure fit to the screen.

The rear camera plugs into the top of the camera and you need to run the cable to the rear of the car, I set it up on the top of the rear screen to the left corner, I was pleased to see it captured the full road behind from that point, the rear camera gives a in picture smaller screen on the main screen of the camera but the storing of the recordings is separated on the memory card in their own folders called ‘F’ and ‘R’ to indicate front and rear camera and each recording corresponds to the rear recording for example FILE180130-082234F.MOV and FILE180130-082234R.MOV which makes matching the recordings very simple.

The first thing I did on starting it up was to go through the LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System) calibration clearly explained in the manual, this can be turned on and off in the menu as can the FCDS (Forward Collision Detection System), both give verbal warnings when you are either too close to the car in front or drift out of lane. Once this was set up I went for a drive to test it out, I was very pleased with the recording quality which I found to be crystal clear on both of the highest level settings and although lower quality recording levels are available I can’t see any point or need to use them as the camera has a loop recording feature so you won't need to keep changing the card or deleting it's contents.

I was really pleased with the quality of the rear view camera capture and tested out the G-Sensor mode with a bit of sharp braking and this worked how it should as did the parking monitoring and motion detection putting the files in separate folders on the memory card which is also a nice helpful feature and you can view the clips using the mode button.

I have added a short video going through the menu system and giving day time and night time footage from both front and rear camera, my original video is of high quality but please be aware the video quality often degrades considerable when uploaded.

ELEGIANT Bluetooth Headphones with Microphone

I’m generally an in-ear headphone fan and I’ve a number of both wired and Bluetooth headsets, that I use frequently. Lately though I’ve been searching for a set of over ear type.

I had 3 fundamental requirements:

They needed to be foldable.
They needed to be capable of being hardwired
They needed to produce top-draw sound.

The first two boxes were easily ticked and having tested them both via Bluetooth and wired modes, the sound wasn’t far behind. I put these through a standard stereo and bass test on youtube and they passed with flying colours. I also tested them with several genres of music,: Classical to drum n bass, Arctic Monkeys to Zepplin. Excellent volume, rich bass and dynamic mid ranges, these performed as well as some of my branded (and breathlessly more expensive) other sets.
I charged these overnight to ensure they were full and wore them on and off for the next 6 hours. They never missed a beat, (if you’ll forgive the pun). Following the instructions, these were very easy to pair with a Bluetooth enabled player and worked well at just over 8m - even through a stud wall.

Taking a phone call in stereo takes a bit of getting used to. I’d recommend being mindful regarding the volume. The test call I received from a friend nearly blew my head off, as he was on hands free in his car, with the radio on. He advised that my voice was clear – a testament to the discreet in-built mike in the headset
The buttons, located on the outside ear piece feel sturdy and robust and the overall feel of these is one of quality. The general look of these headphones is very sleek and they are very nicely presented in a presentation box, which also contains a USB charging cable and a male to male 3.5mm lead for a hardwire connection.

Sabrent Jaws Flex Clamp Mount with Adjustable Neck for GoPro cameras

Very impressed by this clamp.

It twists, it turns, it bends, yet it is very very strong.
Arrives with a "GoPro" type top plate, however with the right clip ( I used one from a generic action camera), it's easily changed to be capable of holding a screw fix camera,

The clamp is extremely strong and once affixed provides brilliant support. I was more than confident to fix my bridge camera and camcorder to this and it held them with no sag or wobble,

I feel this product will stand the test of time. I've had others in the past that have snapped, fallen apart or cracked, however the build quality of this one is superb.

USB powered sub-woofer computer speakers

I’ve an old tower PC that I primarily use as a server, so I’ve never really bothered with using it as a mainstream PC.

I’m redecorating at the moment however, meaning that my posh telly has been packed away, so I’ve been forced to watch my movies etc directly on an old monitor I had knocking about.... But it had no speakers..
I picked these due to other reviews and their “cubish” appearance – I can be quite clumsy, so I wanted a set that wouldn’t topple over if I knocked against them.
There were two things that stood out for me: --

In line volume control.
As to the sound, these performed very well, although at their highest volume, there was a little distortion. That said, I’d be unlikely to have them set to max, as I prefer to find the sweet spot and control the volume via my PC.

EZVIZ Smart Sense Wireless Alarm Starter Kit

I was really surprised with both the effectiveness and the simplicity of this system:---

First off, it utilises the IFTTT system (IF, This, Then That), which has been around since 2010. The IFTTT system is used universally for a whole range of applications for Ios and Android systems.

I draw reference to it only to highlight two things:

Firstly, I do not doubt the suppliers claims that this system is extremely expandable using other IFTTT capable systems.

Secondly, it's going to be around for quite a while to come.

The starter kit itself is impressive. Each element has its own instruction book and simple designation ie "A1" or "K2", meaning they're identifiable at a glance. The instruction books are well written and supplied in several languages, English being at the front. Each element comes with the relevant batteries, and/or charging cables.

Setup was very straightforward:

Plug the hub in and give it a couple of minutes to initialise.

Download and install the app to your phone (There's a QR code on the rear of the hub)

Complete the registration to the app.

Wave your phone near the hub and the relevant data is transferred to the hub.

Pair each bit of kit (PIR detector, door/window sensor etc) to the hub and you're done.

It's that simple, especially as the hub has voice prompts to tell you both what to do and confirm what's been done.

The app itself is well laid out and allows a number of customisable options, to include being able to rename the elements with either pre-set descriptions such as "hall" or "kitchen", but also allows user defined ones. Extremely useful if an alarm is triggered, as you can easily see where the intrusion has occurred. You can also save notifications and pictures if you have cameras fitted.

So once pairing had been completed I tested the door/window sensor first.

Arming the system with the remote, I then opened the window and sure enough the hub itself proclaimed that there was an intrusion, but more importantly, the app pushed a notification to my phone telling me the same.

I repeated this with the PIR detector and again, the system did all that I expected and told me of an intrusion.

Overall I think this type of setup is wonderful. When I first moved into my house, I had a hardwired alarm system fitted, which took 2 days, made loads of mess and cost a small fortune. A setup like this one does away with all of that and with it being expandable to up to 32 elements on the same hub, I can easily imagine most people being able to cover pretty much everything in your house with room to spare.

Full HD 1080p Infrared Night Vision Digital Camcorder

I tend to augment my reviews with video, especially with products, for which, trying to explain them in just a written format would result in a small novel.-

I got fed up of trying to use my phone for several reasons: - auto focus, annoying message alerts interfering with the audio track, plus more and more gadgets are utilising apps, which require the phone, so trying to use it to record video as well was proving to be painful.

I opted for a camcorder, really for a stable video platform. Sure, my bridge camera takes video, but having to chop and change settings was a hassle, hence my purchase of this. It fits nicely in my hand, will connect to any of my tripods, using the dual screw receivers on the base.

It’s supplied with a spare battery, which charges via pass through, but oddly, no memory card. There’s several cables supplied, including a mini to normal HDMI lead and USB lead for charging/transfer of files. Arrived in a very nice Velcro locked carry pouch.
The remote control is responsive and allows you to make numerous changes to your setup s well as the usual pause, record, zoom etc.

A separate mic was included also, which slots into the hot shoe on the top of the cam. Connection is via a 2.5mm jack lead between mic and the rear of the camcorder. Manufacturer states that this mic can also be fitted to other devices.
There are instruction booklets for both the camcorder and the mic. They’re well written and easy to follow, making the setup very simple

I really liked the speed at which this is ready to go. Open the touch responsive screen and within a second, you’re able to start recording. The screen swivels, to a number of preset angles and is bright and clear.
The overall feel and look of this camera is one of quality. I took a number of short video’s and a few photographs to include some night footage as part of my evaluation and they came out really well.

Holan 30 LED waterproof solar light with motion detection

I've got a fair few of these dotted around the house and garden and they 're great.

This one's no exception.

 

 

Left it outside for 24hrs to allow the solar panel to do its thing, then switched it on with the small key provided and bingo.

 I tested this at a height of about 8ft. As I approached the lamp, at a distance of about 3 feet, it powered on and stayed on whilst I stood near it.
 

On stepping away from it, it powered off after a few seconds as I'd expected it to. Step towards it again and on it came. it casts a nice bright pool of light that is quite focused, but then to be fair, it's exactly what I wanted as I'd already got several that cast wide beams, which are great, but diffuse very quickly

 

Easy to fit with the included fixings and once erected, pretty much maintenance free. –

Mindkoo Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

Very nice standalone speaker that’s a bit different, I am visiting my mother over the bank holiday weekend and wanted to take a gift with me, although my mother is in her 80’s she has always embraced new technology and uses the internet daily on her laptop and iPad surfing the net, using Skype, reading the papers, social media and more.

My mother listens to a lot of radio online with her iPad and I wanted to get her a speaker that connected via Bluetooth but also wanted to get something unassuming but stylish, I liked the design of this and am sure my mother will love it and with the light inside it added a bit of originality as well as looking great.

The speaker comes in a nice white branded box with a USB charging cable and an audio cable should you want a direct connection, the manual is clear and well laid out with easy to follow instructions, this is a gloss type manual not a poor quality photocopy type you often get from some suppliers.

After I gave this a full charge I it was time to give it a test, connecting was really easy and completed in under a minute, the volume can be controlled from your phone or using the buttons on the speaker, the light inside is a nice feature and looks great in low light or darkness and can be adjusted or turned off, I tested the call function which worked flawlessly switching between music and call restarting the music from the same point as soon as the call ended.

NEXGADGET 3" Dash Cam, A100+ Series 170 Degree Wide Angle

The camera arrived in a nice branded box with a flip lid, everything was well packed and protected with plastic removable covers on the front and back screens. It comes with a nice glass display screen rather than the plastic ones on a lot of dash cams, it has a big solid lens on the front and the whole thing is finished in what I would describe as a brushed steel finish which looks very nice.

I gave the manual a good read through and then went on to set it up, it has a multitude of options and some settings depend on the preferences you have such as having the screen on all the time or having it auto switch off, the resolution you want it to record at, motion sensor on or off, G-Sensor sensitivity, if you want to put your car registration number in and loads more.

The camera has a suction fitting with a wind in screw to the top of the camera and the suction fitting has a locking arm and is very sold giving a good secure fit, it comes with a cigarette adaptor for the power long enough to conceal round the edge of your screen and dashboard if this is the way you choose to fit it and the end that plugs into the camera is angled to take the lead wire away to the side of the camera.

This camera comes with a HDMI out socket, this is requires a Mini-HDMI to HDMI Cable (not supplied) and allows you to view footage from the camera on and screen that takes a HDMI lead such as TV or computer monitor, you can also set up the menu this way if you want to and in my video recording I have put the menu on my computer screen to show this and recorded it from there.

The record quality is really good both day and night capturing everything both sides of the road including all the side roads and paths, I have grabbed a couple of screen shot which give a better idea of the quality and I will be uploading these along with some additional pictures to the review, I tested the G-sensor function with some hard breaking which also worked very well and tested the parking monitor by rocking the car and that kicked in working as it should.

I have added a video showing going through the menu system and some footage of day and night time driving to show the road coverage but you should be aware that video quality degrades considerably when uploaded.

TaoTronics 34-Inch 40-Watt 2.0 channel Bluetooth Soundbar

Superb quality with a cracking sound, this arrived as you would expect in a long box well packed and protected with custom cut foam blocks at each end and around the middle, each end was also covered in a removable plastic film. I was pleased to say and can confirm this comes with a UK three pin plug not the two pin one in some of the pictures.

After opening it up I had a read through the manual, a very simple manual easy to follow covering all the functions and corresponding functions of the buttons on the remote control. The remote control is very good with a simple and basic layout similar to the layout of a Firestick remote control only larger.

I got this for one main purpose and that’s for my Xbox One although I will be using it to stream a bit of music as well if I get chance as my wife and daughters seem to have the monopoly on what music is played in the house. Although I have a large TV I have never tried a sound bar before so this was something new for me and what I was really after was the immersive sound available when playing a video game without having to wear a headset.

I decided to set this up with an optical lead (not provided) although it has leads for RCA in and coaxial connection if you don’t have an optical port on your TV, I gave it a good test on my TV with some music channels and then connected it to my iPhone 6 via Bluetooth which is simple enough just putting the speaker into BT mode then searching on your device for Taotronics and once connected you are good to go, After this I went onto my Xbox One and I really am impressed with the sound filling the room and it goes way beyond any sound level I would ever use, I didn’t notice any distortion and the sound experience between the speaker and TV speakers is like chalk and cheese, I wish I have got one sooner.

I have added a short video of playing Ghost Recon on the Xbox One and I also flicked through a few sound tests after a simple YouTube search to show it connected via Bluetooth, I did test the range and didn’t get any drop off up to 30ft, after that it started to lose connection intermittently which is more than adequate for my needs. This is an ideal starter kit that won’t have you needing to upgrade a few weeks after buying when you want something more powerful, for a lot of people wanting to give up smoking and move onto vaping the choices are daunting and you also run into a lot of anoraks going into the sort of details you would not really even be looking at until you have been vaping for a while if ever.

The kit arrives with everything you need to be up and running and the first thing I did was to put the battery in the mod box and put it on charge then start reading the manual which is very clear and easy to follow giving illustrations when needed. The unusual thing about this mod box is it does not come with the LED screen you have on most other mod boxes but that is the intent with this kit, it is intended to simplify the process so in effect you just fill it up and start vaping with auto recognition of the coil giving you optimum settings.

After charging I ran through the process of changing the coil as many times when I have purchased a tank when I go to change the coil I have no idea how to do it and have to search for a video so hopefully this helps someone, the tank is an innovative design with the coil screwing to the lid of the tank rather than having a screw fitting on both ends, I think this is the way tanks are going now as it seems to remove a lot of the leakage issues and the fitting is very simple.

When I changed the coil I didn’t prime the new one as I planned to leave the tank sitting for around five hours until the morning before testing but I would always suggest priming the coil with liquid when you change and leaving it to soak around 10 minutes to avoid any burnt taste if you are waiting to use it.

This tank auto switches to the best mode for the coil you are using and as I have several different tanks with a variety of coils I tested them and can confirm it auto switched to the correct mode for the coil indicated by the display LED at the bottom front of the mod box, the tank supplied comes with a changeable mouth piece, I did switch to the other one in the video but my preference is for the open ended one.

With the supplied 2500mAh Battery this is a powerful mod box and should power any tank and coil you put on it, when I fired it up the supplied tank gave a very nice vape with plenty of plumes of vapour and the flavour came through really well, as I mentioned I have added a video and will add some pictures, you may also notice I had a visiting ant in my video I didn’t notice until I watched it back so I might add no ants were harmed in the making of this video and I released it into the wild :). Please be aware my original video is of high quality and the video quality often degrades considerable when uploaded.

This really is a great little IP Camera, it arrived really well packed into a branded box with a UK plug and everything you needed to get it up and running, the Quick Start Guide that comes with it is an extremely comprehensive glossy manual, very well laid out and easy to follow giving pictures and diagrams to assist in setting the camera up.

I downloaded the phone application to my iPhone 6 and also installed the IP cam software to my desktop PC (provided on the disk that comes in the package), the phone application is very well laid out with simple controls and the ability to move the camera round by just moving the screen with your finger also giving the ability to pinch and zoom, take photos, adjust settings and record video.

The PC software is a very similar layout on a larger scale and for the more advanced user you could use this anywhere in the world to see the camera feed and control it with the aid of a remote desktop viewer.

I first set this up hard wired to my network with the network cable provided, this was a very smooth process having the camera linked to the phone application after just a couple of minutes, I then linked it to the PC application again a very simple process made easy by the prompts of what to do next in the software.

The camera gives superb footage giving you the option of changing the quality via the phone application with HD being crystal clear. The camera’s 340 degree view angle works really well not only being able to go from side to side but also up, down and zoom also having the option of a smooth rotation and return to starting point. You have a touch screen microphone button for two way voice communication also being able to mute the sound either end of the camera giving very clear final sound on the end recording as well.

With the ability to invert and flip the screen horizontally this camera can be placed on a flat surface or fixed to a ceiling all depending on your intended use and has a motion detection feature to email you when triggered so has a vast variety of uses.

I have added a video to show the camera in use this time using the WiFi connection, I put it on my balcony as I didn’t really want to appear on camera or show the contents of my house and didn’t think it necessary as my intention is to show the features and footage. Please be aware my original video is of high quality and the video quality often degrades considerable when uploaded but hopefully not too much and I will be adding some pictures which show the quality. As a side note if you find the video won’t run as I often find then expand it to full size and start it then reduce the size again.

MATECam Hidden Camera 1080P Mini SPY U-DISK

This is a very nifty little gadget that is indistinguishable from a normal USB Flash Drive, it comes in a little white box with a flip top lid, 16gig USB card with the option I chose (£32.95 at the time of purchase).

The unit is nice and lightweight, made of a matt black smooth plastic very similar to the type/style used with games console controllers, the front are the camera lens is concealed behind is mirrored, I presume the same technology used in two way mirrors. There is a small plastic button on the opposite side of the card reader slot which controls the unit.

The unit also comes with a little key chain carrying ring and a manual, the manual is fairly simple to follow, to turn it on you hold the button for three seconds and then to start recording you hold the button for a second and a little blue LED flashes three time to indicate you are recording then goes off, a short press stops the recording and after a blue light flashes a red LED indicates it has stopped. For taking a photo it is a quick press on the button.

One thing not very clear in the manual but none the less fairly simple to do is setting the date and time stamp on the unit, when hooked up to your PC to read the contents there is a text file called “TIME” you can open that in notepad or whatever basic text file reader you use, edit the time and date then save it again.

It was time to give it a test, I tried to record a variety of different things to show the record quality of video and audio and was very pleased with the results and have added a very short video to show this, please be aware video quality degrades considerably when uploaded.

Tomons Wood Swing Arm Desk Lamp

A very nice retro style lamp, I purchased this for my mother for her bedside table as she is very anti anything that has a modern feel and look, she said she wanted an old style lamp for her bedroom and after searching for a while I thought this would be ideal.

It comes very well packed and presented in its own bespoke box showing quality from the start, the assembly is very simple and straight forward with instructions fitted into the lid of the box.

I like the old style flex cable which certainly gives it a retro feel along with looking nice as it goes through the holes in the wooden lamp stand, the bottom part is great and really heavy giving it a good solid base unlike some lightweight lamps which are easy to knock over.

This is a great little mod box for daily use on the move in my opinion, I was surprised how small and light it is. I have several mod boxes and they are separated into big heavy ones I use at home that sit on my desk all the time and smaller lightweight ones I take with me while on the move and this falls into the latter.

I have been vaping now for over 5 years going from the very first simple pen type e-cigs and moving on as technology and the products improved to the point we are at now with good solid batteries and top filling atomisers that really deliver a great vaping experience. This arrived in a nice little sliding box with everything you need to be up and running so after giving it a full charge I decided to give it a test.

The controls on this are very simple and very well detailed in the small but very clear print booklet with illustrations that came with it, the atomiser tank is a design I have not seen before with the coil attaching to the top rather than the bottom and the air vents being in the top as opposed to the bottom with all other atomiser tanks I have seen, this seems a very clever idea and removes the seals thus reducing vastly the chance of leakage from the bottom as is the case with many other tanks, the tank is a 2ml capacity which is compliant with the new tobacco laws affecting vapers coming into force on May 20th. The display on the LED screen is very clear and good solid adjustment buttons that you have to hold to activate then adjust the power, a good feature to avoid accidental adjustment.

After filling this up and allowing time for the juice to saturate the filter (I normally give it a good 30mins to be sure) it was time to give it a test, I found it to give a superb draw with very nice plumes of vapour, the taste of the juice came through very nicely and after a few adjustments on the air vents I found it to be a very good experience.

I have added a short video at the start showing how to change the coil, priming it, filling the tank and then giving it a break before finishing with some testing, although not apparent on the video there is a 30min break between filling and usage.
