Besteker Portable 1080P 24MP 16X Mini Video Camcorder Review

I got this as a mess around camera to take with us whenever we go out, I already have an GoPro Hero5 but this is mainly used when I’m out cycling and as good as it is there are a lot of limitations not least the not having a zoom feature and having to be linked to a mobile device to see what you are filming plus as it’s so expensive I am always worried it will get damaged when I let my daughter use it.

This isn’t and doesn’t pretend to be a top of the range all singing and dancing camcorder and this is also reflected in the budget price but it is a good solid camcorder with a lot of features, settings and a good clear swivel LCD screen to view footage as you record or replay captured footage, adjust and alter settings.

On unpacking it I was surprised just how small and compact it was and liked the simple but effective carry case, the battery slots into the bottom and is charged while in the camera and sitting next to the battery housing is the slot for the SD card, I used a micro SD card in a SD card adapter which worked perfectly. On the rear of the camera you have the charge port and socket for TV connection, I noticed in the settings under USB you can set it to PCCAM so I presume it can be set and used as a webcam for a PC but I have not tried this feature.

While giving the battery a full charge I have a good read through the manual, it’s fairly comprehensive and explains all the features, settings and how to navigate the menu, it was time to give it a test, first off I recorded a bit of footage off my balcony and tested the zoom, all worked well and footage was very clear, I took it with me on a walk to the shops and recorded a bit of footage and also tested the black and white which was a very clear recording and Sepia which gave a reddish-brown colour the sort you see with old monochrome photographs and movies from the 1920’s all good fun.

I have added a video and will add a few pictures showing the unpacking, going through the menu system and some of the recording I have described, please note my original video is of high quality as is the recording from the camcorder but the video quality often degrades considerable when uploaded but hopefully not too much.

NEXGADGET 3" Dash Cam, A100+ Series 170 Degree Wide Angle

The camera arrived in a nice branded box with a flip lid, everything was well packed and protected with plastic removable covers on the front and back screens. It comes with a nice glass display screen rather than the plastic ones on a lot of dash cams, it has a big solid lens on the front and the whole thing is finished in what I would describe as a brushed steel finish which looks very nice.

I gave the manual a good read through and then went on to set it up, it has a multitude of options and some settings depend on the preferences you have such as having the screen on all the time or having it auto switch off, the resolution you want it to record at, motion sensor on or off, G-Sensor sensitivity, if you want to put your car registration number in and loads more.

The camera has a suction fitting with a wind in screw to the top of the camera and the suction fitting has a locking arm and is very sold giving a good secure fit, it comes with a cigarette adaptor for the power long enough to conceal round the edge of your screen and dashboard if this is the way you choose to fit it and the end that plugs into the camera is angled to take the lead wire away to the side of the camera.

This camera comes with a HDMI out socket, this is requires a Mini-HDMI to HDMI Cable (not supplied) and allows you to view footage from the camera on and screen that takes a HDMI lead such as TV or computer monitor, you can also set up the menu this way if you want to and in my video recording I have put the menu on my computer screen to show this and recorded it from there.

The record quality is really good both day and night capturing everything both sides of the road including all the side roads and paths, I have grabbed a couple of screen shot which give a better idea of the quality and I will be uploading these along with some additional pictures to the review, I tested the G-sensor function with some hard breaking which also worked very well and tested the parking monitor by rocking the car and that kicked in working as it should.

I have added a video showing going through the menu system and some footage of day and night time driving to show the road coverage but you should be aware that video quality degrades considerably when uploaded.

MATECam Hidden Camera 1080P Mini SPY U-DISK

This is a very nifty little gadget that is indistinguishable from a normal USB Flash Drive, it comes in a little white box with a flip top lid, 16gig USB card with the option I chose (£32.95 at the time of purchase).

The unit is nice and lightweight, made of a matt black smooth plastic very similar to the type/style used with games console controllers, the front are the camera lens is concealed behind is mirrored, I presume the same technology used in two way mirrors. There is a small plastic button on the opposite side of the card reader slot which controls the unit.

The unit also comes with a little key chain carrying ring and a manual, the manual is fairly simple to follow, to turn it on you hold the button for three seconds and then to start recording you hold the button for a second and a little blue LED flashes three time to indicate you are recording then goes off, a short press stops the recording and after a blue light flashes a red LED indicates it has stopped. For taking a photo it is a quick press on the button.

One thing not very clear in the manual but none the less fairly simple to do is setting the date and time stamp on the unit, when hooked up to your PC to read the contents there is a text file called “TIME” you can open that in notepad or whatever basic text file reader you use, edit the time and date then save it again.

It was time to give it a test, I tried to record a variety of different things to show the record quality of video and audio and was very pleased with the results and have added a very short video to show this, please be aware video quality degrades considerably when uploaded.

I got this camera for some home security for live viewing and motion notifications and must say I am extremely impressed with it, the picture quality is superb and has a really solid and professional phone application linked to it I will just add at this point although I installed this on my iphone 6 it is listed as an iphone application in the apple store I also installed it onto my wife’s ipad air and it worked flawlessly on that.

This comes in a very nice sliding box and has a user manual along with a very easy to follow quick start guide giving step by step instructions along with illustrations on setting the camera up. After reading the guide I installed the EZVIZ application on my phone, inserted a 32gb micro SD card into the camera and started the live view, all very simple with the quick start guide.

I wanted to set the camera up in different places as I wanted to give it a good test in high and low light levels and also decide on the best location for it. The wide screen view captures a huge viewing area and I set it up in my hallway which has no windows so could give it a good test in zero light and was really impressed with the results, I have added a video to show this and other captures but please be aware video quality degrades considerable once uploaded to Amazon due to their optimisation process and the original footage is of a much higher quality.

The micro SD card will start to overwrite the oldest footage once it is full and there is an option to use cloud storage with a free months trial option, I installed the Ezviz Studio onto my home PC and have also captured some footage from that and added it to my video, again a very easy to use simple but very effective application.

GooBang Doo 4K Sport Camera WiFi Camcorder

This really is a cracking little action camera, it arrived in a long box with a clear plastic top with the camera fixed inside, I opened it all up and there are masses of various different mounts for fixing the camera. I wanted to fix this to my cycle helmet and it has all the fittings to do this and it fixes nice and secure.

After reading through the instructions and installing the EZ iCam application onto my phone it was a very simple process to link the camera via WIFI to my phone and then add it in the phone app, this application works very well and also allows you to change some of the camera settings without having to go into the camera menu’s, it’s simple but very effective and ideal for hands free recording.

The camera also comes with a little remote control which can be fitted to the straps so if like myself you are using it on a cycle helmet it’s a simple button push to start and stop recording without trying to find the button on the top of the camera or use your phone.

I have added a video but please be aware that the quality degrades significantly once it goes through Amazons optimisation and the original quality is far clearer. The video shows me going through the menu system which is very simple, packed with features and settings and most of it is obvious and self-explanatory but should you get stuck the manual is very clear and easy to follow. The second part shows me on my daily cycle ride.

I have added some photo’s captured from the video which hopefully gives a better indication of the great quality, at the end of the video I have the camera fitted on the handlebars, this works find but I did find the camera much better on my cycle helmet with far less vibration as I use a lot of rough cycle paths.

TOGUARD Dual Lens Dash Cam front and rear recording ATST

This arrived in a very nice box rather than the generic brown box you often get so it was clear from the start attention to detail was taken right through to packaging and presentation, after unpacking I gave the manuals a good read, these are very clear and easy to follow with illustrations breaking down all the functions and features all being in English only and no mixed languages between text.

The camera screen is about the same size as an iPhone 5 and is glass, some cameras have plastic screens which I find don’t quite give the crisp display glass does, the menu system is very easy to follow and set up and it has an inbuilt battery but as is normal this is a reserve or emergency battery only and the camera needs to be powered when in use.

The rear camera is a small spy type camera that plugs into the top of the main camera and has a good length cable so you are able to take it to the back of the car with no problem concealing the wire, once powered you get a picture in picture display on screen so you can monitor the rear view while driving.

I found the front recorded footage very good and clear and with the wide angle you capture everything both sides of the road including the paths and side roads, I was especially impressed with the quality of the night vision.

It separates the front footage from the rear footage in giving the rear footage the same by naming them for example 2017_0412_203735_005A.MOV and 2017_0412_203735_005B.MOV so very easy to find the corresponding rear footage. The rear camera as stated records at 720*480P and is a small basic camera so does not give the high quality of the front camera but is clear enough should it be needed and performs very well as a monitor picture in picture.

I have uploaded some recorded footage of the menus, front and rear camera day footage along with front and rear camera night time footage, please note the footage is somewhat degraded when uploaded to Amazon due to their compression and optimisation so the original footage is of far better quality.

TOGUARD Mini Full HD 1080P Car Blackbox Dash Cam

Nice compact great quality dash cam, my daughter has just passed her driving test so thought it would be a good idea to get her a dash cam and decided to purchase this. It comes in a nice little compact box with everything you need to be up and running including a 16GB micro SD card which is great as this is often an additional purchase with dash cams.

There are two manuals a quick guide which gives you a very simple run down of setting up the camera and getting started along with illustrations to assist, the quick guide is all in English, the second guide is a user manual and gives a more detailed breakdown on features and functions along with a troubleshooting guide.

The camera is surprisingly small and compact but the menu is very easy to navigate via the buttons, I tested the G-Sensor feature which worked very well as it should, and selected a 3 min loop record for my road test. I was very impressed with the results both day and night with the wide angle capturing both sides of the road including side roads and paths, the quality is superb being able to clearly read number plates of other vehicles both day and night, you should note the camera needs to be powered when in use and the built in battery is for short use and emergencies.

 

I have given the camera a good test and have uploaded a video showing the menu features and then going on to show some day and night time recorded footage of it in use, please be aware the quality of the video degrades when it is uploaded to Amazon with their optimisation so the original footage is of a much higher quality. I will also upload some pictures and stills from the camera which hopefully give a better idea of quality.

CACAGOO CA07 Car DVR Dashboard Dash Cam

This really is a cracking little dash cam, it arrived in a nice custom box with a foam cut out to hold the camera with protective plastic over the screens with all the leads and manual in the bottom. I was really surprised how small it was so after giving it a full charge it was time to give it a test, I already had a 32 gig micro SD card ready so after inserting that I switched it on.

This comes with a multitude of settings so I had a good read through the manual before setting it up and decided to start with 1920* 1080p 45fps with a 3 minutes loop although I have since tested all the other modes these are the settings for this video I have attached, setting it up is fairly simple just cycling and selecting through the onscreen menu. I clipped in the suction holder and fixed it into the car. What I really like about this is the wide angle lens, it makes it so you can fit it virtually any place on your windscreen and get a full wide angle of the road and the paths including side roads so everything is captured.

When I returned I plugged the camera into the computer and transferred the videos, you could of course just remove the micro SD card and use a card reader if you wished, the quality of the videos was superb with very crisp and clear sound quality. I have taken some screen grabs from the videos as the video I have uploaded will not show the true quality due to the optimisation on upload so they hopefully give a clearer representation. I tested the video locking that worked as it should, the motion detect seems to work flawlessly instantly starting the recording as soon as I started the car.

Premium Reshow® HD Video Recorder Box

For a few years now I have been using a Roxio HD pro which is a nice capture card but as good as it is I find it a real pain to set up or leave set up having cables from my Xbox One to the Roxio and cables from that running to my PC having to capture live via the capture software which also gives you a several second delay so when I saw this I thought great idea that’s for me.

The setup could not be easier just HDMI input from the device you want to record from into the ezcap then HDMI out to the screen so all you are really doing is introducing the ezcap into the loop, I used a 32 gig flash drive for the captures which was ideal.

The capture is really as simple as pressing the button on the front to start and pressing it again to stop and the ezcap does the rest dropping the video recordings to the flash drive or whatever device you are using.

I wanted to give it a good test so I decided to test it with my Xbox One, Android box and my desktop PC then using the software provided to stitch it all together and add a few of the provided effects. I have uploaded the video but please note I had to really strip it to the bare minimum to get it to a size I would be able to upload to Amazon so although it should give a good idea of functions and features it's not an indication of final video quality.

The software provided is basic but has more than enough features to edit and trim, add intro’s, text, transition effects and more. The video quality is superb, I did test the inbuilt microphone option which worked well but as I hate the sound of my own voice I never add it :)

The device is very small and I have uploaded a picture of it next to my Xbox One controller which should hopefully give you a better idea of size. It might sound silly but I also liked the fact the provided HDMI lead was only about a foot long which is just right to have it next to the Xbox One without loads of extra cable.

- Not so much of a dislike as an observation that the editing software is basic although very simple to use
