Great fun cracking little drone packed with features, it arrived in a black flip top box the drone on the top with the instruction manual and leaflet with a QR code for downloading the FDY-FPV accompanying application for the drone, under the drone in a moulded plastic holder it had the controller, clip on phone holder, four spare rotors, a USB charging lead and a mini screwdriver for removing the holding screws on the battery cover and back of the controller.
After unboxing it all I removed the battery and put it on charge for a few hours while I downloaded the FDY-FPV application to my Android phone and had a good read through the manual, I have flown a few mini drones now but am far from an experienced user but find them great fun to fly. After the battery was fully charged it was time to take it out for a test flight.
I wanted to test it outside for its first flight so as to be comfortable with the controls etc before trying it indoors, after switching the drone on I linked it to my phone via Wi-Fi looking for YD_XXX_UFO-XXXXX and then connecting to it, all very straight forward, once it connected I opened up the FDY-FPV phone app which gives the ability to live record from the camera to your phone, take snaps and control the drone along with recording in VR for viewing on a headset or for the really brave wear the VR headset and fly something I am not experienced enough to even try but a clever feature none the less. You don’t have to use the phone app when flying but you do if you want to record from the on-board camera.
The rotor arms fold in and out very easily and once I had everything set up it was time to give it a whirl, the take-off button is a nice feature just giving a long press and it starts the drone raising it to a hover position holding firm at about head height and with a short press it lands the drone, I found this drone really stable and easy to fly and it was quite a windy day but still held up really well, the tricks work well by pressing the right bumper button and pushing the controller in the direction you want it to flip it rolls in that direction and is very responsive to the controls without being too sensitive.
The drone folds away very easily and ends up around the same size as my hand, I really liked that it took away the need to fit a micro SD card and did the recording via the a FDY-FPV app on your phone along with having a training game to help you get used to controlling the drone before you actually fly it live.
I have added some video and will also add some pictures showing unboxing the drone, fitting the batteries in the controller and showing the battery fitting into the drone, a view of the FDY-FPV phone application along with showing the test flight training part, starting it up with some live flying with a bit of recording taken from the camera to my Android phone via the app.
