VEIKK VK1560 15.6 inch Full HD Drawing Monitor Review

I do a lot of work on photograph reconstruction, manipulation, repair and adjustment using Photoshop and although this is the best product on the market for doing this you are always limited by mouse movement not allowing for free hand and free flowing reconstruction work. I have been using Photoshop for nearly 20 years now and the progression of tools such as content aware have made my work a lot easier and quicker but fine adjustment and reconstruction is always the really difficult part especially on faces.

I had a few prerequisites before getting a new drawing tablet one being a better pen mainly lighter as I have used rechargeable which work fine but I find the weight after a while and a long job becomes a problem so this being a battery free passive pen was ideal to remove this issue, I wanted a screen with a good adjustment range so it would sit comfortably on my desk below my monitor and had to be precise with precision when I used it and of course a good display that would link easily to my computer and give me duel screen and this seemed to fit all my needs along with budget.

This arrived in a flip top brown box with everything well padded and protected, after unpacking I linked it all up and downloaded and installed the drivers for Windows from the veikk website all very simple and straight forward and after setting up and adjusting the duel monitor settings I was up and running. The display is very nice and crystal clear being a perfect size for my needs and the multiple tilt adjustment allowed me to get it into the perfect angle for my needs.

I loaded up Photoshop and ran it through multiple tasks I do every day with zoomed in fine line and reconstruction work, blending, colour correction, selection and adjustment along with pin point area selection for layering adjustment and repair all really pleasing and precise with the exact precision I need, the pen is very nice, light and fits in the hand well, I have since setup the hot keys which work really well although I will need to get into the habit of using them.

I recorded a short video and have added some pictures really just showing the process of drawing, ease of selection and free hand drawing something really not possible with a mouse to give any sort of stability, accuracy or free flowing of lines, this is not really something I do so please forgive the poor artistry as my main work is high zoom reconstruction work something that would not translate well to a video.

Overall I am really pleased with this drawing tablet, easy to set up, light and precise battery free pen, highly adjustable, fits exactly how I wanted on my desk, good precision pressure sensitivity allowing me to do very fine line detail, very nice clear display along with hot key for quick switching.

AUNEX Smart Wireless Video Doorbell Review

I liked the idea of the video doorbell and although I work mostly from home we get a multitude of cold callers here such as political canvassing, window sales, utility switching promoters, religion promoters etc and although I tell them I am not interested it means stopping work and getting up to open the door not only breaking my concentration but also wasting my time. I like the idea of being able to answer my door while I’m out not only for security but annoyingly frequently I have a missed delivery when just popped out for 20 minutes on the school run or to the shop and the doorbell has already saved me having to reschedule a delivery or going to pick it up.

The doorbell arrived in a Aunex branded box with everything need to fit it, the instructions are very clear walking you through the setting up of the doorbell which is very straight forward and includes a QR code for both Android and IOS devices which makes it simple to scan and download the UBell application to the device you are using. After setting it up I also installed the UBell application to my wife’s phone using the Share QR code feature just a quick scan and my wife’s phone was set up instantly.

After it was set up I fitted it to my front door, it has connectors for AC power but as I fitted it on the door I didn’t want to mess about and with two 18650 batteries supplied It’s no problem to just charge them over night every few months through the micro USB charge port on the back of the bell. Once you have fitted the bell on the mounting plate there is a small hex head screw that goes in the bottom to stop it being removed plus the added protection of an instant notification on your device if it is removed.

The notification when someone rings the bell has about a one second delay for me but I would think this varies slightly depending on the strength and quality of your WiFi connection, the two way voice communication is very clear and video quality more than adequate to clearly show who is at the door, the UBell application has a cruise mode which will scan the area and a switch mode giving you the option of a wide view of the area or close in view of who is at the door. Recording or taking a snapshot is very simple with just a touch on the video or camera buttons. The PIR detection works really well picking up and notifying you of any movement and adjustable High, Medium or low.

Overall I am really pleased with the doorbell, it’s very easy to setup, simple to fit, comes with everything you need so no additional purchases needed, gives good clear video and audio and picks up movement near the door, the notification system works really well, adding an additional phone or tablet is really simple and is great for answering the door while I’m out.

Andrew James Electric Egg Boiler Poacher Cooker Review

Egg cookers are great little devices and I have been using them for about three years now and I would definitely recommend them no matter what brand you go for. My current egg cooker has the capacity for six boiled eggs and a tray for two poached eggs but when I saw this was on offer I couldn’t resist with it taking seven eggs and a poaching container that will take four eggs at a time.

This does a great job and the buzzer when they are ready is loud and clear so you won’t miss when they are finished, I was not keen on the lid as I am used to a solid plastic one with a handle on the top for easy removal and this one would have been far better with some sort of handle moulded into the lid. The measuring container is fluted which I also feel is a bit of a mistake as it makes it harder for fine adjustment on the water quantity, it has an egg piercing pin on the bottom although this is something I have never used as I just boil them as is because I am always worried I will either smash the egg or they will burst in the cooker.

I tested it out first with seven boiled eggs and it did a superb job and I also find eggs out of egg cookers are really easy the shell, I then tried four poached eggs, I found with medium size eggs it fills each section to the top so steady hands are needed when putting them in the cooker or you can remove some of the white, the measurement for poached eggs is way out for how I like them and they all came out almost hard when I like the yoke runny although I have since found the exact level of water needed for how I like them and to be fair I found exactly the same issue with my other egg cooker. With poached eggs always make sure you coat the container with a little bit of oil then they come out nice and easy.

Overall this is a great little device and if you like boiled eggs or poached eggs it’s a hassle free way of cooking them quickly, it does a really good job of boiled eggs and poached eggs, I haven’t tried it for steaming vegetables and doubt I ever will but don’t see why it shouldn’t give good results, it’s let down a bit by the lid for me but it’s not really a big deal. Just as an added note I clean mine now and again with a little descaler  as they do tend to get a bit scaled up after a while.

NAVISKAUTO Twin Screens Car DVD Player Review

With two young children we often have to take long road trips to visit my elderly mother who lives over 100 miles away and although the children have tablets we have been experiencing unwanted arguments with anything from one of their batteries running out or moaning they can’t get internet or the game they want to play is on the others tablet and they won’t share. We decided it was time to get a car DVD player with two screens as we already anticipated arguments over who sat screen side.

We wanted something that would take a USB device, SD card and also have a region free DVD player as their uncle often brings them back DVD’s from his American trips, easy to fit and detach but also be easy to use around the house when we wanted and after having a good search this seemed ideal for our needs.

It arrived well packed and foam protected in a branded box with all the connections needed and remote control inside, the instruction manual is very clear and easy to follow listing all the features and functions, I had placed a couple of MP4 movies on a SD card and wanted to give it a good test before fitting it in the car and make sure everything worked and worked well. I found the picture quality extremely good and it also has plenty of adjustments if needed, the sound is good and clear also coming with a headphone socket which is great as my youngest daughter will often fall asleep so her sister can use her headset and not disturb her.

Switching between DVD play and SD card or USB device is very simple and fairly seamless even having a resume feature with DVD play so you can pick up again where you left off, after testing everything and being happy I fitted it in the car, the straps are basic and go through slots on the back fixing with valcro, although they are basic they give a good solid fixing, are very easy to adjust also quick and painless to remove.

The players link together with a cable and the slave player gets its power from the main one, the secondary player is only available when the main unit is powered from the cigarette lighter socket although the main player will play using it’s inbuilt battery for up to five hours, I don’t leave them in the car while not in use but it only takes a few seconds to remove or replace them.

We have taken several long trips since having these and they work flawlessly as does the remote control which my eldest daughter (11) has no problem using and selecting between DVD and SD card for setting up what they are going to watch, the sound is good and although plenty loud enough in the back of the car it’s just low background noise in the front.

Bben Ultra Slim 14 inch Laptop Computer with Windows 10 Review

My daughter is 11 years old and has just completed her SATs (Standard Assessment Tests), she will be moving up to the secondary school or big school as my generation called it but apparently now it is “high school” no doubt another adaptation from America. We wanted and somewhat felt we needed to get her a laptop or notepad computer as they get their homework assignments online along with being a great research resource we decided to get it now so she will be fully ready and familiar with the computer.

We quickly decided a full on laptop would be too heavy and bulky for her to ship around so finally decided on the Bben Ultra Slim 14 inch our main reasons being it was under 1.8 kilograms had a nice brushed metal finish my daughter approved of, reasonable price, 13.7mm thickness, it has an Intel processor rather than AMD which I have personally had issues with, maybe bad luck but enough to put me off them, had a good battery life and came ready to go with Windows 10.

It arrived in a branded flip top box with power lead and an instruction booklet, the instructions are not really needed as Windows 10 walks you through the setup after switching it on although you should be prepared for a few hours of downloading and installing Windows 10 updates, not something unique to this as anything you buy will need the same and it something that is mandatory with Windows 10. After it had finished updating I went through personalising it and testing all the features ready for my daughter.

The bootup is very quick and the touch pad very responsive but due to me being stuck in my ways I wanted to fit a wireless mouse to it for setting everything up which I was pleased to see was plug and play working instantly, I installed Google chrome as a preference to the standard edge browser supplied with Windows and did some surfing going through a few websites testing sound and graphics all displaying perfectly and videos along with live TV playing flawlessly. The keypad is very nice positive touch buttons rather than keys you don’t know if it has registered or not and the screen display is really crisp and clear. It comes with a few things pre-installed which are easy enough to remove if you don’t want then.

I installed Avast a free virus protection and a few other programs my daughter wanted and everything runs great, we have told her it’s not for playing games on and this is not the intention of us buying it for her but I did test out a couple to see how smoothly they ran as it’s a fairly good test and again they ran smoothly, I installed a computer testing program from Novabench and even after a few hours use without reboot it gave very good results.

My old mattress had seen better days and I have been having lower back problems for quite a while, my wife had got an over mattress I think it was called which sat on top of our original mattress but it really was a waste of money being way too soft and if anything making my back worse so it was time for a new mattress.

Once I ran the opening tool down the seam the mattress instantly expanded into full size and easily slid into place, the quality looked very nice and it felt very solid so I made the bed up ready for a night’s sleep, I had not realised how bad my old mattress had got until I started using this one and the difference was like chalk and cheese, the mattress is not too soft and not too hard it sort of hugs your body without you sinking into it if that makes sense.

I have been using the Inofia mattress for a month now and it really is superb, my back pain has eased off considerable and I am getting a good uninterrupted night’s sleep, my wife who was very dubious about it even more so when she saw it arrived in a long box rather than flat is now completely convinced in its quality and attributes.

Overall I am very pleased with this mattress and it certainly delivers great quality, I don’t understand all the technical aspects such as having a 7-zone spring system or pocket springs and how they work but I really don’t need to as long as it works and it does, it’s comfortable and very supportive and I would not hesitate to recommend it especially to anyone having back issues like mine.

Ulefone MIX 5.5 inch with Triple cameras 4GB RAM 64GB ROM Review

Lovely phone I really like it, I bought my son the exact same phone for Christmas after he smashed his iphone and talked him into giving Android a go as I was converted several years ago and he really loves it, I have been filled with phone envy ever since so when I saw it on offer from this seller £30 below what I paid before I decided I needed an upgrade and went for it.

The phone arrived in a nice and simple Ulefone branded lift top box with the phone on top, manual, sim release pin, little metal phone stand, charge lead and retractable pin three pin USB plug in the bottom. This has a simple manual with good clear and detailed illustrations giving you all the basics you need to know.

I wanted to keep all the apps and data off my old phone so went through the setup selecting ‘Keep your apps & data’ then ‘Another Android device’ which then took me through a simple step by step on screen menu to restore a backup copy from my old phone and after I inserted a sim card and a micro SD card I was soon up and running, I used a micro SD card to test the feature but plan to run it with duel sims so tested that as well which worked fine even setting up different ringtones for them using MP3’s something iphone won’t allow no idea why.

I set up the fingerprint recognition using three of my fingers so I could open it with either hand and also use my thumb on my right hand, I like the fact the finger print recognition is on the front of the screen as it’s on the back of my old phone and I have to take it out of the case to use it. I browsed the net and ran a few videos on YouTube which all worked great giving a great sound and very clear and clean display. I ran a few games and was pleased to see they ran flawlessly without any lag or stuttering with very responsive and accurate movement on the touch screen.

I tested out the camera which was superb one of the reasons I had phone envy as I have seen some of the shots my son has taken with his and I found a nice little free app to test the phone running it with everything checking out and it was working great, I decided I needed a case even though it comes with a rubber case fitted I tend to slip my phone in my front pocket when I go out so wanted a wraparound case and found one I liked on a well-known auction site for £3.50 delivered (bargain) and it had a cut out that fitted the camera everything I wanted.

Overall this is a really nice phone with 4gb of ram and 64gb of rom it’s fast and smooth with a great camera, fingerprint recognition on the front, a great display and sound with the ability to use duel sims or sim and a micro SD card and the reason I have given it full marks. I have added a video and will also add some pictures showing how easy it is to set up and going through some of the functions such as adding the fingerprints and running a phone test.

Cigarette Socket AC 220v Mains to DC 12v 5A 60W Power Inverter Review

I have a few gadgets is use in my car that I also use in my house the main one being the car vacuum which I find ideal for vacuuming round my desk and cleaning out the dusk from in and around my desktop PC case, for the last 10 years I have been using a big block plugin convertor which had worked reasonably well although I wasn’t sure how safe it was as it got very hot and last week it finally stopped working all together so I needed another.

I had a good look round at different ones and the reason I went for this one is I didn’t want another socket based one, it had over and under working voltage protection and short circuit protection, it was available on prime and had good review feedback.

The unit works well and I have tested a few of my gadgets in it without any problems, the only negatives I have found with it are I would have liked a thicker/stronger cable on the cigarette female end for added protection and the cable from the three pin plug socket either being longer or shorter as it’s not long enough from a 4tf high wall socket to sit flat on the floor and has excessive cable if it sits on the side next to the socket, overall a very handy device that works well and I have given it four stars for that reason.
