Toguard 12MP 1080P 120° Wide Angle Wildlife Camera Review

Great quality wildlife camera, I wanted to replace my old wildlife camera with a new one as my brother ‘borrowed’ mine a while ago and he likes it so much he keeps forgetting to return it so I finally said he could keep it as an early Christmas present and I would get a new one. I decided to get another Toguard as the quality with the old one was spot on.

It arrived in a Toguard branded black zipped case which opened up to a webbed top section containing two mounting ribbons with spring loaded metal clips on the end, a micro USB data lead and the manual, on the bottom section inserted into a foam cut out it contained the wildlife camera.

I gave the manual a good read, it’s very detailed and gives you a good step by step guide of setting it up and what all the features and functions do plus diagrams of the camera linked to descriptive text explaining what the parts are or do. As I have already been using a wildlife camera for a while I am used to the settings but they are easy to navigate and understand, I would point out a couple of things although covered you should be aware of, when the camera is ‘ON’ apart from the initial red led blinking the camera shows no signs what so ever of being active so you set everything up in test mode before switching it to the ‘ON’ position, after using it always switch it to the off position and don’t switch from ‘ON’ back to test mode before going to the off position first when changing settings.

After unwrapping it and inserting six AA batteries (don’t use rechargeable) and a 32gig micro SD card it was time to give it a test, I set it out round the bins as I was fairly sure I would capture one of the local cats raiding them and wasn’t disappointed, the night vision quality is superb and the area I set it up in has no lighting what so ever and it captured some good clear clean footage, I did try setting it out on the lawn to capture some birds with a bit of bread but didn’t get any interest due to the day being very wet but was still a good test of the waterproof feature as it hammered down and was bone dry inside. Just as a side note mine does not lose any settings when the batteries are removed and when replaced it is still set up exactly as before including the time and date settings.

I have added a video and will also add some pictures showing the unboxing, inserting the batteries and micro SD card then some capture of the cat raiding the bins and a bit of footage I did indoors just showing the same area in total darkness and normal light with some of my daughters clockwork toys.

  • High Quality Day & Night Image - Toguard Trail Game Camera provides 12 Mega Pixels HD photo taken & 1080P Full HD high quality video recording, day(color) and night(black and white), ensure every details will be captured.
  • Super Fast Trigger Speed - With an impressive 0.5 second trigger speed, one second delay between triggers (stills only) and up to 9 pictures Multi-Shot feature, you are guaranteed to never miss any of the action.
  • Motion Detection & Night Vision - The trail camera is equipped with a 120° PIR motion detection angle, a 120° lens view angle and 48PCS No glow Black Infrared LEDs(which makes it a stealthy unit that does not intrude into the natural habitat), make up to 65ft/20M detection capturing range. No movement will be missed by recording even at night.
  • Easy Operate - No need to set up, The trail camera is already set with ideal settings for the majority of wildlife applications, whether used on trails or on nest sites. Just power it with 1.5V 6* AA Alkaline batteries, insert a micro SD card, switch it on then game camera is in standby. Switch game camera to TEST mode and use the remote control to set up when you need, very simple!
  • Durability - The case design is pretty good. The latch is big, sturdy and easy to operate. There is a threaded insert on the bottom of the trail camera for mounting on a tripod, and the back bracket is designed to fit a strap as well. The trail camera is stable, weatherproof and can be left outdoors for extended periods of time.

What I liked
**************
- Remote control works very well and makes it easy to navigate the menu system
- It’s waterproof
- Good clear LCD display making it very easy to set up
- Picture is very clear and can go up to 12 Mega Pixels
- Day time video quality is very clear and vibrant
- Night vision quality is superb
- The sensor works really well instantly picking up movement with up to 20M detection
- Multitude of different modes and adjustments
- Good solid build quality
- The straps work really well going through mounded slots on the rear of the camera making it easy to fix to posts or a tree

What I Didn’t Like
******************
- More of an observation than a dislike, I would have liked it to have a chargeable on-board power source, I know you can power it via the DC Power but this is only practical when you have a nearby power source, that said with up to 6 months of stand-by time I never found it an issue.

Summary
**********
Overall this is a cracking wildlife camera, it’s a good solid build and delivers really clear footage both day and night. If you have any questions please feel free to ask I will do my best to answer.

TOGUARD® Wildlife Camera 12MP Full HD 1080P

This is a really great camera and I am very impressed with the quality, it arrived well packed and all the lenses had a removable plastic protective cover. I gave the manuals a good read and then it was time to give it a test, I fitted the eight AA batteries needed, inserted a Micro SD card, removed the battery disable tag from the remote control and switched it to test mode. Once done you get a very good menu on the front under the flap, I performed various test captures in different modes which all worked as described so it was time to put it into action for a proper test.
I set it up at ground level outside near the bins and left it a few hours before retrieving it and was pleased to see I caught a cat raiding the black bags, the next day I set it up on my balcony just to capture some daytime activity which also worked very well. I would also note the area near the bins was pitch black you could not even see your hand in front of your face.
I have uploaded a video and some pictures, I would note at this time that the video quality once uploaded to Amazon is quite poor so if you wish to see a better version on YouTube the number at the end is v=nJMQBc8jmJI just change any video you load to end with that to view.
You should note that the test mode is as it say’s to test and you get lights on the front and the view screen is on but once you put it into ON mode there is no visual indication the camera is on and working so as to keep the camera as hidden and covert as possible.

  • 12 Mega Pixels HD Photo taking and 1080P Full HD high quality video recording ensure every details will be captured.
  • Bulit-in 48 pcs No glow Black Infrared LED make up to 65ft/20m night vision range. no movement will be missed even at night.
  • 120° Wide angle PIR sensor plus wide angle lens ensure maximum coverage.
  • IP54 Waterproof housing ensures durability in all-weather condition.
  • Featured functions: Multi-shot, Interval, Timelapse,Motion detection, Timer, Time stamp, Photo + Video Recording.Get 1 Year Warranty.

APEMAN Trail Hunting Wildlife Camera

For anyone not wanting to read through my full review I will start off by saying this is a very nice camera and I would recommend it. The camera comes nicely boxed with a choice of a strap mounting or a fixed base (both supplied). I read through the quick start guide which is very simple to follow, I then inserted the batteries and a SD card neither of which are supplied as clearly stated so already had these ready when it arrived. I put the camera in test mode as suggested and had a play with the settings and modes taking a few test photos and videos which worked well.
After I was happy I fully understood the settings I placed it into the ON mode at this point it counts down on the screen and then the screen goes blank you should also note at this point you will not see the flashing LED you do in test mode and the camera has the appearance of being totally inactive. I set it up on my balcony with a setting of picture and video and have uploaded a very short video of the results, I have very little experience of editing videos so just put the picture first then the video taken.
My daughter is 10 years old and mad keen on wildlife so I got this for the garden as every year we get anything from cats, foxes to hedgehogs visiting and after a good test on this I am more than happy it is going to get us some great pictures and videos.

What I Liked
**************
- Good quality images and videos
- Nice design
- Choice of fittings
- Wide variety of settings and modes
- Menu system and LED display
- Water resistant

What I Didn’t like
*******************
- One minor niggle was you could not switch from the ON mode to TEST mode and use the menu items and had to go from ON mode to OFF then back to TEST mode. Not really a major issue and not something I would reduce my rating for as it does not affect the overall usage.

What I Would Like To See
******************************
- A built in power bank rather than batteries
- Built in hard drive in addition to SD card slot
Summary
***********
Overall a great camera with enough settings for a wide variety of uses, the video and picture quality is very good and adjustable, I am very pleased with this camera and would certainly recommend it.
